Josie’s Top Five: Pioneers of Recycled Plastic Products

Josie’s Top Five: Pioneers of Recycled Plastic Products

As part of our celebration of Plastic Free July, I’ve chosen to champion five companies who are doing their bit to pioneer premium-level products produced exclusively from recycled plastic.

Girlfriend Collective

Proponents of ‘Ethically Made Activeware’, Girlfriend Collective’s product offering is entirely manufactured from recycled plastic bottles, fishing nets and numerous other materials that would normally find their way to landfill. To date, 2,511,931 plastic bottles have been recycled into stylish and comfortable bras, leggings and shorts. You go Girlfriend!

Allbirds

This New Zealand-based footwear brand only use sustainable resources and materials, many of which are recycled waste. Being from New Zealand, Merino wool is the natural ‘hero’ material, but you will also find castor bean oil and sugar cane used in their production processes. Not only that, one recycled plastic bottle equals one pair of Allbirds shoelaces.

As well as a commitment to eliminate all virgin plastic from their supply chain by 2021, Everlane have so far recycled over six and half million plastic bottles and upcycled textiles and fishing nets to make their aptly named ReNew and ReKnit collections.

In collaboration with the knife makers Savernake, designer duo 2LG have used recycled plastic, post-industrial composite waste and compressed paper to create their collection of knife handles and boards. J’adore!
