Highlights from Salone del Mobile, Milan 2023

We returned to Milan once again for Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week, collaborating with Pollice Illuminazione and showcasing our newly launched Loop series.

We returned this year to Milan for their Euroluce edition of Salone del Mobile and Milan Design Week. The Euroluce theme comes around once every two years and highlights the very best of lighting design brought together in one city. 

Tala x Pollice Illuminazione

We were proudly partnered once again with Pollice Illuminazione. We took over a dedicated room in their historical, quintessentially Italian showroom, creating a classical Italian Salotto della Luce themed space. 

A striking feature of the room was a specially designed bookcase by architect Lazzaro Raboni. The bookcase contributed to the Salotto della Luce theme, filled with design books intersected with our Loop Table Lamps and The Muse Portable Lamp, emanating a subtle glow from the shelves due to the Dim to Warm characteristics of the lamps. 

We focussed our display on Loop, our newly launched collection in collaboration with London industrial designer, John Tree. We also showcased the Kilter Wall Light and The Muse Portable Lamp, both in Solid Brass, creating a luxury and premium feel.

Pollice Illuminazione hosted an evening drinks event to present both Tala and Tekna to clients and friends, The Muse brightened up the high tables in the courtyard.

Loop designer John Tree was in town and came along to the event, giving clients the chance to hear about the product development story from the designer himself.

Design stories that caught our eye

We were able to cover much of the city and fair during our four-day stay; here are some of our highlights covering design and sustainability. 

House of Swizerland, Milano

Presence Switzerland and Pro Helvetia joined forces to host the House of Switzerland. Created in collaboration with emerging designers, independent studios, established brands and educational and research institutions, the 'Urgent Legacy' group exhibition presented innovative and sustainable Swiss design responses to the urgent challenges of the present.

Nilufar Gallery
Nilufar Gallery returned to Milan with 'The Bright Side of Design', an exhibition that unfolded in the spaces of Nilufar Depot and Nilufar Gallery Via della Spiga.

Alcova
Alcova was one of our anticipated favourites, a destination for exceptionally curated work. Situated in an abandoned military base, a host of international designers took over the myriad of spaces indoors and out. It was fresh and very dynamic, and hugely inspiring.

Some Alcova highlights included Crafting Plastics and Atelier Luma's installations. 

The captivating and thought-provoking exhibit by Crafting Plastics and DomoLab - The Sensbiom 2 installation showcases a collection of environmentally-responsive materials crafted from renewable resources. These unique materials change colour based on the intensity of solar radiation, providing an interactive and engaging experience that connected people to the environment while emphasising the importance of protecting our skin and eyes from harmful UV rays.

Atelier Luma's intriguing exhibit expertly curated a series of displays that merge the themes of bioregions and traditional craftsmanship.
