FAQs
We are here to help. Below are some commonly asked questions and answers. For tailored assistance or order-specific queries, please email us at hello@tala.co.uk.
Yes, all of our bulbs are dimmable. We offer our own collection of brass and graphite dimmers to match our signature pendants.
We also have a range of "Dim-to-Warm" bulbs that dim from bright, cool light to warm, dim light.
Colour temperature is the scale that measures how 'warm' (yellow) or 'cool' (blue) light from a source is. It is measured using the Kelvin scale (abbreviated to 'K') and the higher the number the cooler the light is.
For example, a normal candle emits a warm yellow light of roughly 1000K, while a blue sky would measure around 9000K.
Our light sources range from 1800K to 3100K and we also have a number of Dim-to-warm products, where colour temperature changes as the source is dimmed.
Dim-to-warm technology means that the colour temperature changes with the dimming of the bulb. At full brightness our Dim-to-warm products have a colour temperature of 2800K, 3000K or 3100K, which is a cool, white light. When dimmed, the colour temperature moves down to a warmer light of 2200K, 2000K or 1800K. See each product's colour temperature in the Features tab on the product page.
CRI or Colour Rendering Index is defined as a light source’s ability to render colour. Essentially, the measure is intended to characterise the quality of light emitted by any given light source.
CRI is rated from 1-100. The higher the CRI, the more accurately the light source renders every colour in the visible spectrum. To have what is generally considered good colour rendering, a source must be greater than 80 CRI. Tala LEDs all have a CRI count higher than 95, making them perfect for gallery-quality lighting.
We have a range of Lumen outputs to suit different scenarios, from 100lm to 3000lm.
Our Decorative Bulbs have lumen outputs that typically range from 100lm (Pygmy & Voronoi I) to 680lm (Sphere IV).
Functional Light Sources range from 360lm (G9) to a maximum of 3000lm (Light Engine III).
Based on how long a light source is illuminated per day, here is what 30,000 hours works out to be in years:
24 hours per day: 3.5 years
18 hours per day: 4.6 years
12 hours per day: 7 years
8 hours per day: 10.3 years
Yes, all of our Pendant and Canopies are suitable to be installed on sloped ceilings.
All of our Pendant and Canopy ranges come with an adjustable cable as standard, this allows you to shorten and lengthen the cable to fit with your ceiling height. Adjusting the length of the pendant can be done through the ceiling rose.
Instructions:
In order to adjust the length of the cable on your pendant you will need to remove the grub screws that are located in the small node that connects the cable to the ceiling rose.
Once it has been removed you will be able to pull the cable through the ceiling rose to your desired length. You will then need to screw the grub screws back in.
Ensure that the grub screw is screwed in very tight so that the cable cannot move.
Our pendants are not suitable for use with lampshades. Our bulbs however can be used in fixtures that include shades, provided that the specifications and cap size are appropriate for the fixture.
Tala has launched our own dimmer range which offers outstanding light control and is designed for superior LED lighting.
Easy to install and use and developed to guarantee the best possible performance with our LED bulbs and light engines with smooth dimming from zero to 100%. Explore the collection here.
We do sell a selection of accessories and replacement parts for certain products. See our full range here.

Yes, Tala is an LIAQA assured company.
What is LIAQA?
The Lighting Industry Association Quality Assurance scheme is a lighting focused, quality assurance scheme developed by industry experts at the LIA. The scheme assesses the members quality system and product compliance, and supports the member in achieving and maintaining the standard expected for LIA membership. Once members have achieved and demonstrated the expected level of compliance they are awarded the LIAQA Assured Company mark.
What does it mean?
The LIAQA assured company mark shows that the LIA member has successfully fulfilled the criteria set by the LIA for product acceptance, manufacturing process requirements, and have provided evidence that supports product conformity. LIAQA Assured Members can showcase to their customers that as suppliers of lighting and lighting related products they have a system in place that effectively addresses product compliance and quality control.
All of our products have an IP rating before going to market. The majority of our fixtures have a rating of IP20 and our bulbs IP54.
We also have a range of Wet-Rated products that are suitable for use outdoors and in bathrooms, these are rated IP44.
We recommend using this online resource for more detailed information on IP ratings and what that means for installation.
When people think of LEDs they think bulky design, large chips, silver collars and a high lumen output. Up until now, they would by and large be correct. LEDs are undoubtedly highly functional. However, in many cases they are badly designed with questionable light quality.
Tala adopts a classic design aesthetic alongside high-performance components in order to create an elegant LED bulb. By mounting high-performance chips onto columns of sapphire substrate, the design remains minimalist whilst ensuring excellent performance capabilities.
The design marries the best of the Edison light bulb features (instant, warm, flicker-free, filament style) with contemporary energy performance. Our customers want the traditional look of the filament bulb at the same time as receiving all of the technical and energy saving benefits of LED.
LEDs have several advantages:
- High efficacy (90% more efficient than incandescent lighting)
- Durability (we source parts of the highest quality)
- Minimum life span of 15,000 – 30,000 light hours
- Reduced lighting maintenance requirements
- Average return on investment in under 1 year
These factors translate into considerable energy savings, maintenance savings and environmental sustainability. There is also the potential for greater optical control (more controllable source), dimming, instant on/off, and reduced rate of lumen depreciation (potential for long application life).
