Frequently Asked Questions

Learn more about our newest smart light, WAKE.

Getting Started

Wake combines:

  • Calibrated light intensity and spectrum for circadian alignment.
  • Natural soundscapes built in.
  • Phone-free operation for a screen-free bedroom.
  • Design-led form that doubles as your bedside lamp.

This makes it a dedicated tool for healthier wake-sleep routines and not just another clock or lamp.

No, Wake is effective in normal bedrooms. While very bright morning light may reduce contrast, most users benefit without altering curtains or blinds.

Your body’s internal clock, or circadian rhythm, is strongly influenced by light, as this is how we understood day and night before artificial lighting.
It has been proven that exposure to warm, low-intensity light in the evening, like the Wake’s Wind Down routine, helps stimulate melatonin production to encourage restfulness.

In the morning, Wake uses gradual light and nature-inspired audio to mimic a sunrise that softly wakens you at the lightest point in your sleep cycle. This has been shown to reduce grogginess and sleep inertia caused by abrupt alarms, so Wake can support a gentler, more energised start to the day.

Wake has been designed to encourage sleep at night and alertness in the morning by utilising the most recent scientific understanding on light’s effect on sleep and circadian health.

Waking with bright light promotes alertness and minimises sleep inertia. Waking with light, instead of sound, reduces morning stress and allows your body to awaken at the most appropriate time in your sleep cycle.

Dim light and calming sounds in the evening prepare you for sleep and help to establish a consistent routine.

We have chosen the brightness of the light to ensure it triggers the circadian stimulus in the morning (700lm, CS 0.4), and tuned light in the evening to ensure there is no stimulus from blue or bright light.

Wake has designed to reach a brightness of 700lm that will wake you up in the morning at the lightest part of your sleep cycle. For deeper sleepers or for extra peace of mind, Wake also features energising alarm sounds that can be set for your Wake Up time.

Yes. Wake is fully controllable on-device:

  • Rotate the body to dim up or down.
  • Press the body to open the on-device menu.

No, Wake is subscription-free. All features are included with your purchase.

Yes. Wake is fully controllable on-device without connecting to WiFi.

If the lamp has been connected to the app previously, you can disconnect and Wake will maintain all programmed settings and schedules.

Take note, if any schedule has been set, then this schedule will continue to run and automatically load the next day's alarm settings until it is reconnected and turned off in the app.

Any updates will require 2.4 gHz Wifi connection.

A ‘Wake Up’ is the sunrise-effect of the Wake light that gradually shifts from warm and dim to bright, cool light for a natural awakening. This can be paired with an audible alarm sound if desired.

A ‘Wind Down’ is the gradual dimming of warm light before bed to reflect sunset for a relaxing night-time routine.

Sleep Sounds are soundscapes of nature and White Noise tracks built into the Wake Light that help you relax and unwind while blocking out any external disturbances as you prepare for sleep, helping you fall asleep quicker.

Yes, you can quickly snooze with one press of the Wake body.

Yes, the display can be changed to ‘On Click’ which means the display only illuminates when the lamp is interacted with. The display will turn off automatically after a period of inactivity.

Setup + How to Use

Simply plug it in, follow the quick-start guide, and Wake will be ready in minutes. No complicated installation required.

Sleep Time is your planned time to fall asleep at the end of Wake’s Sunset, where the bulb switches off completely.

Wake Up Time is when you want to wake up and the light reaches its brightest point.

Wake is intuitively controlled by rotating and clicking the ceramic body. The hidden display allows for menu navigation, settings, alarm setting and time.

Alternatively, all features are available on the Tala App.

Stop your alarm by rotating the ceramic body either direction. This will leave the light on but exit the alarm and stop the alarm sound.

Press the ceramic body to snooze for 9 minutes (default). Snooze duration can be changed in settings or the Tala App.

Wake has a curated selection of energising alarm sounds and relaxing sleep sounds designed to help you fall asleep, including nature soundscapes, instrumental tracks, and white noise.

Troubleshooting

Please connect to the Tala App immediately after purchase and perform any available software updates. This will ensure your Wake has the most up to date features and improvements. After a software update, the app can be disconnected if phone control is not desired.

Ensure the bulb is securely screwed in and the power cable is attached with the power on.

Rotate the lamp body anticlockwise to brighten the light.

If using the Tala App: Check that the ‘Time Source’ is set to ‘AUTO’ in the settings found in the gear icon on the top right of the dashboard and your phone’s permissions are allowed for the Tala App.

If using the device only: Check that ‘SET TIME’ in ‘TIME SETTINGS’ in the on-device settings is set to ‘MANUAL’ and reset the time manually.

Check if ‘ON CLICK’ mode is set on the device settings or in the app under ‘Display Settings’. This means the display will only illuminate when the lamp is interacted with. To have the display shown all the time, change this setting to ‘ALWAYS ON’.

Adjust the light’s brightness by rotating the body anticlockwise. The display brightness will increase with the lamp brightness if brightness is set to ‘DYNAMIC’. To change to a static brightness, change this setting to ‘MANUAL’.

Adjust the Wind Down duration in WIND DOWN SETTINGS > DURATION on the device or under ‘Sleep Time’ on the Tala App dashboard.

Adjust the Wake Up duration in ALARM SETTINGS > DURATION on the device or under ‘Wake Up’ on the Tala App dashboard.

Ensure the Alarm Volume is set to a volume you can hear when waking.

Check ‘ALARM SOUND DELAY’ on the Tala App settings is set to 0 minutes. App settings can be found under the gear icon in the top right corner of the dashboard.

Ensure ‘SLEEP SOUND VOLUME’ is set to 30% or higher to ensure you can hear it is on.

During Wind Down, ensure ‘SLEEP SOUND’ is turned on in the Wind down settings and ‘SLEEP SOUND START’ is set correctly on the app settings.

Ensure ‘NEXT ALARM’ is turned on in the app or on the device.

Ensure your Schedule in the app is ‘PAUSED’ or no alarm is set for the next day that could have overridden the alarm.

Check your device’s time is accurate. If on ‘MANUAL’ Time Source, ensure date is set correctly. If on ‘AUTO’ Time Source, ensure app has permission to read your phone’s location.

Ensure your Schedule in the app is not ‘PAUSED’ at the bottom of the Schedule manager.

Check the ‘NEXT ALARM’ on the main dashboard or on the device has not been changed the night before.

Check that your device’s time is accurate. If on ‘MANUAL' Time Source, ensure the date is set correctly. If on ‘AUTO’ Time Source, ensure the Tala App has permission to read your phone’s location.

Connectivity

Ensure your Bluetooth and WiFi are turned on and open to new connections on your mobile device.

Your Wake may be connected to another device or household. In this case, Factory Rest the device by navigating to Settings > Factory Reset > Confirm. The device will now be ready to pair.

Once connected to WiFi, Wake can be controlled from any location using the Tala App so your routines can be adjusted when you need.

Make sure the mobile device used for setup is connected to the same WiFi network that you want to connect your Wake Light to.

Ensure you are in sufficient range of the Wifi and 2.4GHz WiFi is available. Most household wifi have two WiFi signals: 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz. Like many other Smart Home products, Wake needs 2.4GHz WiFi to connect. While 5.0Hz is the ‘faster’ W signal, 2.4GHz is best for smaller amounts of data over longer distances, allowing Wake to function well in every room.

Most networks have mixed or combined wifi signal under one network. Some routers will default to 5GHz so you may need to temporarily disable the 5GHz signal while pairing the Wake. Once connected, the 5GHz signal can be reenabled and Wake will remain connected.

Yes, pair two or more Wake Lights for unified control, creating synchronised Wake Up and Wind Down routines. Perfect for both sides of the bed.
